In a move to ensure public safety and security during the 2025 Eid al-Fitr celebrations marking the end of Ramadan, the State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, Commandant Augustine Padonu, has directed the deployment of 1500 personnel across Oyo State, as instructed by the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi.

According to a statement made available to journalists by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Samuel Olubanjo Opebiyi, the directive, issued on Friday, mandates all Area Commands and Divisions within the state to implement a comprehensive security plan.

“The primary objective is to safeguard Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, including all prayer grounds, motor parks, markets, high-traffic areas, recreation centres, mosques, road intersections, and other public places. This initiative aims to prevent crime and maintain public order during the festive period,” Opebiyi said.

He added that specialised units had been mobilised to bolster emergency response capabilities.

“The Disaster Management Unit, Counter-Terrorist Unit, Agro-Rangers, and the Anti-Vandalism Unit have each been assigned to carry out targeted operations to address any potential security threats. These measures are deemed essential to counter any untoward incidents during this critical period.

“NSCDC personnel will also be collaborating with other security agencies to ensure a unified and robust security response. This coordinated effort is designed to provide an extra layer of protection, guaranteeing that all aspects of public safety and crime prevention are fully covered during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations,” he stated.
