The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a suspected serial burglar linked to four residential break-ins in the Ejiooku/Iyana Offa area of Ibadan and recovered some of the stolen property estimated at ₦16.22 million.
The suspect, identified as Nasiru Abiodun, was arrested on October 31 at about 9.45 am by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), following a report from concerned residents of Oyewole Zone 2, Ile-Igbon, in the area.
The police said the suspect was apprehended at a residential apartment with a sack containing house cables and other valuables estimated at ₦3 million.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation to burgling four residential apartments in the area.
He admitted to stealing house cables, mobile phones, motorcycle batteries and other household valuables.
The police put the estimated value of the stolen items across the four incidents at ₦16.22 million, adding that some of the property had been recovered from the suspect.
The statement said operatives subsequently visited the identified crime scenes to establish relevant facts and advance the investigation.
It added that efforts were ongoing to recover the remaining stolen items and arrest anyone suspected of receiving the stolen property.
The command appealed to residents of Ejiooku/Iyana Offa, Ile-Igbon and neighbouring communities whose homes might have been burgled recently to report such incidents to the nearest police station or the VCRU’s Maku Base.
The Commissioner of Police, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through intelligence-led operations and proactive policing.
