Philanthropist trains Islamic clerics in Kwara

A religious philanthropist, Alhaja Rahmat Salih at the weekend assembled six international-rated Islamic scholars to train over 300 Islamic clerics in Kwara State.

Rahmat, the founder of Daaru-S Sa’ aada Islamic centre, told newsmen at the Annual Imams Conference held at Ajase-Ipo Central Mosque during the one-day training that many Imams have failed in their responsibilities in pursuit of inconsequential adventures.

The Ajase-Ipo-born Philanthropist in Ifelodun local government, Kwara State, said she realised some flaws in some Islamic leaders.

Speaking on the theme: “sound Imam, sound jama’ah, the Chief Imam of Ajase-Ipo, Shaykh Taofeek Atoloye, said the event was a manifestation of the divine acceptance of several prayers by Muslim faithful for great opportunities that would among others sharpen the knowledge of Islamic religious leaders in the community and beyond.

“We have been praying ceaselessly for this kind of gathering to foster and improve our responsibilities.”

The founder of Morcas-Dawah, Amir Qamardeen Ajala, who described the programme as training the trainers, discussed the essence of Imamship which he said included seeking to improve the religion and their followers’ welfare.

Meanwhile, professor AbdRazak AbdMajeed Alaro of the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, while addressing the topic: Responsibilities and Duties of Imams, urged imams to see themselves as occupying certain offices requiring certain duties and responsibilities. 

He listed their duties to include: settling rifts among Muslims, seeking the better socioeconomic status of followers, training them, visiting followers, and; being concerned about their general wellbeing.

Another lecturer, the Chief Imam of Lekki central mosque, Lagos, Dr. Ridwan Jamiu urged Imams to foster good relationships among politicians praying behind them.
