The Nigeria Police Force has recorded a major breakthrough in its ongoing operations against banditry with the arrest of four suspected criminals and the recovery of a cache of weapons in Kaduna State.

The operation was carried out by operatives of the Force Intelligence Department – Special Tactical Squad (FID-STS), according to a statement issued on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, through the police’s official X  handle.

The suspects: Abdumumini Abubakar (40), Maikano Gambo (47), Saleh Thompson (47), and Oyonyi Odango (40) , were apprehended on March 7, 2026, in Tayu, Sanga Local Government Area of the state, following what the police described as credible intelligence.

Items recovered from the suspects include four AK-47 rifles with magazines, 80 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, as well as a locally fabricated pistol loaded with 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition.

According to the police, preliminary investigations have linked the suspects to banditry and other violent criminal activities within the region.

The force added that efforts are ongoing to track down other fleeing members of the criminal network and to recover additional arms.

Reacting to the development, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication. He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to intensifying efforts aimed at curbing banditry and safeguarding lives and property across the country.
