Men of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Ogun State Police Command have rescued the Prince of Okun Owa in Odogbolu Council Area, Idris Adesulu, during an operation in which two suspected kidnappers were also killed, the spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said.
The operatives also recovered an AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to have been used for collecting ransom, and other incriminating exhibits, Babaseyi added in a statement yesterday.
He explained that the armed kidnappers invaded the Okun Owa residence of the prince at about 7:30 p.m. on June 30, 2026, and whisked him away. However, upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, directed the anti-kidnapping unit, supported by other tactical teams, to rescue the victim and apprehend those responsible, he added.

According to Babaseyi, following coordinated pressure, the kidnappers released the victim unharmed on July 3, 2026, while the police, further acting on credible intelligence, engaged the suspects in a gun battle at the Agoro/Imodi axis.
“The operatives responded decisively, resulting in the neutralisation of two kidnappers, while the other members of the gang escaped with gunshot wounds,” he stated.
Disclosing that an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to be a ransom bag, and other exhibits linked to the criminal operation were recovered, the police said the bodies of the neutralised kidnappers have been deposited at a government morgue, while efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects continue.
Meanwhile, the Police Commissioner, Ojajuni, commended the courage, professionalism and operational efficiency of the anti-kidnap unit and other tactical teams involved in the operation, and also urged residents to be vigilant and continue supporting the police with timely and credible information to improve policing in their communities.
In another development, operatives of the Ogun State Community, Social Orientation and Safety Corps (So-Safe Corps) have announced the arrest of a 43-year-old man, Abraham Michael, for allegedly abducting and raping a 19-year-old girl in the Gasline area of Sango.
The suspect allegedly abducted the victim on July 2, 2026, and demanded a ransom of N60,000 for her release. He was arrested following a distress call from the cleric in charge of the Christ Light Parish, Celestial Church of Christ, Ijoko, Oluwaseyi Popoola.
In a statement disclosing this yesterday, the Director of Information and Public Relations, ACC Adegunwa Adegbuyi, cited the Corps Commander, Dr Soji Ganzallo, as stating that the operatives of the Sango-Adalemo-Toll Gate Division received information from the cleric on the disappearance of the 19-year-old Miss Liasu Pelumi at about 10:00 p.m. on July 7, 2026.
According to the complainant, “the victim had been under his care and had been missing for several days. During the search, he received a phone call demanding a ransom of N60,000 for her release,” Ganzallo stated, adding that the operatives, acting on a tip-off from a community member, and with the approval of the Zonal Commander, ACC Tajudeen Odunmbaku, stormed the suspect’s residence on Idowu Akinsanya Street, Babaonigba, Gasline Road, Sango.
He added that though the suspect had attempted to divert the operatives from where the victim was being held, “during interrogation, he admitted that the victim had been in his custody since July 2, 2026.”
Ganzallo said the case has been transferred to the Nigeria Police Force, Sango Divisional Headquarters, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
