Police arrest suspected kidnapper, rescue victim in Ondo

Operatives of the Ondo State Police Command have arrested a suspected kidnapper following an attempted abduction in Akure, the state capital.

The suspect, identified as Adeola Adegbenro, was apprehended during a pursuit by police operatives on patrol along the Oba-Ile axis in Akure North Local Council of the state.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the operatives launched the chase after hearing cries for help from inside a red Toyota Camry.

Jimoh said that during the pursuit, the victim, identified as Kayode Alaba, was pushed out of the moving vehicle by the suspects.

He added that one member of the gang was arrested while others escaped.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim had earlier been abducted from his residence along Irese Road, Akure, prior to the timely intervention of the police operatives.

“The victim has since been rescued and is currently receiving medical attention. The arrested suspect has provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations.

“The case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Akure, for thorough and discreet investigation, as well as intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing accomplices.

“The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, commends the gallantry, swift response and professionalism of the operatives involved in the operation.

“He reiterates the command’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property across Ondo State and assures the public that all perpetrators of criminal acts will be relentlessly pursued and brought to justice.

“The command also urges residents to remain vigilant and continue to provide timely, credible and actionable information to police, as collective efforts remain vital in the fight against crime.”
