The Lagos State Police Command has deployed additional operatives to Mushin and its environs following public outcry over incidents of daylight assaults, harassment, and theft by teenage miscreants and hoodlums, reportedly aged between 14 and 16.
State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has dispatched police tactical squads, Police Mobile Force (PMF) personnel, and other conventional teams to curb the activities of the miscreants, arrest offenders, and bring them to justice. He urged residents and traders in Mushin to go about their lawful activities without fear or apprehension.
The Area Commander covering Mushin has been directed to collaborate with the two local council chairmen in the area. Together, they have devised strategies to enhance security deployment and ensure the protection of residents and traders.
On Monday, police raided criminal hideouts and black spots in Ishaga, Awolowo, and Ojuwoye markets, leading to the arrest of 23 suspects linked to assaults, harassment, and thefts in the Mushin area. The suspects are currently under investigation and will be charged to court soon.
The command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the development, adding that the raids on criminal hideouts and slums would continue until the area is completely rid of the miscreants.
“The Commissioner of Police has equally assured the good people of Mushin and the entire Lagos State that their safety and security remain a top priority, and we are committed to restoring peace and confidence in this area,” Hundeyin said.
He urged Lagos residents to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station, assuring that officers have been directed to respond swiftly to such reports.
