The Yobe State Police Command has disbursed N42.1 million to the families of 35 police officers who died in active service across the state.
Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, said the payment was part of the Family Welfare Scheme (FWS) and Group Life Insurance (GLI) initiative introduced by the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun.
Addressing the beneficiaries over the weekend in Damaturu, Ado said the welfare and insurance schemes were designed to improve the wellbeing of both serving officers and the families of fallen heroes.
He expressed appreciation to the IGP for sustaining the twin welfare programmes, describing them as a reflection of the Force’s compassion and commitment to its personnel.
“Today’s disbursement of life insurance benefits demonstrates the IGP’s commitment to police officers’ genuine care and benevolence, while protecting lives and property in the country,” Ado said.
He urged the families of the deceased personnel to use the funds wisely, particularly in the education and upkeep of their children, and cautioned them against deceitful individuals who might attempt to exploit them.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the IGP for the prompt release of the N42.1 million, which they confirmed had been credited to their bank accounts.
