Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a truck hijacking operation in Ijebu Imushin, recovering a stolen DAF truck and a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped with black tape allegedly used during the attack.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday after a truck driver transporting motor spare parts was reportedly ambushed by suspected hoodlums in the Oke-Ado area of Ijebu North Local Government Area.
According to the Ogun State Police Command, the attackers forcefully dispossessed the driver of the vehicle before fleeing with it.
Following a distress call, detectives attached to the Ijebu Imushin Division, working alongside highway patrol operatives, swiftly launched a coordinated response to track down the suspects.
The pressure mounted by the operatives reportedly forced the suspects to abandon the truck and flee the scene.Police authorities said the intervention prevented the loss of the vehicle and other valuable property.
The driver, who sustained a minor injury to his right ankle during the incident, was treated immediately.A subsequent search conducted on the recovered truck led to the discovery of a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped with black tape, believed to have been used by the suspects to intimidate the victim during the operation.
The command said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
Commending the operatives for their swift response, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting residents and ensuring the safety of road users across the state.
The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.
