Police foil truck hijack in Ogun, recover stolen vehicle, wooden rifle

Wooden rifle recovered

Detectives of the Ijebu Imushin Division of the Ogun State Police Command have foiled a truck hijacking operation and recovered a stolen DAF truck, along with a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped in black tape.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, May 6, 2026, following a distress call from a driver who was attacked while transporting motor spare parts.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the driver was intercepted by suspected hoodlums in the Oke-Ado area of Ijebu North Local Council of Ogun State, where the truck was forcefully taken from him.

Confirming the incident, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, said in a statement yesterday that upon receiving the report, detectives, in collaboration with highway patrol operatives, swiftly mobilised to the scene, forcing the suspects to abandon the truck and flee under pressure.

According to him, the prompt intervention of the police thwarted the criminal operation and prevented the loss of property.

“The driver, who sustained a minor injury to his right ankle during the incident, was promptly given first aid.

“A thorough search of the recovered truck led to the discovery of a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped in black tape, which was used by the suspects during the operation.

“Operatives are actively tracking the fleeing suspects with a view to their swift arrest and prosecution,” he added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, Mr Bode Ojajuni, commended the swift and professional response of the operatives.

He reassured the public of the command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety of road users and residents across the state.

Ojajuni also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities through the Ogun State Police Command’s emergency lines.
