The Niger State Police Command has impounded additional 115 vehicles in various Police formations within the state in continuation of the ongoing enforcement against unregistered, defaced number plates and vehicles with tinted glasses.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement, stated that these vehicles were found operating on the roads without registration number plates, or have defaced/obscured number plates and tinted glasses without any reasonable or legal excuse.

He noted that the impounded vehicles underwent appropriate screening, and over 90 vehicles found wanting were investigated and charged to courts for prosecution in accordance with relevant laws.

Abiodun stressed that the Commissioner of Police, Niger State Command CP Adamu Abdullahi Elleman, commended efforts of the enforcing personnel exhibiting a high level of professionalism, civility and respect for human rights.

CP Elleman encouraged officers to maintain such tempo and ensure the continuity of the enforcement in accordance with standard operating procedures.

He also acknowledged the cooperation and understanding of members of the public, most especially vehicle owners for their support and collaboration with Police personnel in the ongoing enforcement.

He reiterated that the exercise is not aimed at inconveniencing law-abiding citizens but to reinforce public safety through prevention and detection of crimes, as well as reducing vehicle-related crime in the society.

Elleman, however, admonished vehicle owners and motorists to ensure that their vehicles are duly registered and fitted with clearly visible registration number plates at all times.

The Commissioner of Police had earlier urged members of the public to be law-abiding and comply with all traffic laws and regulations, and continue to cooperate with Police during the enforcement exercise.
