The Delta State Police Command has intensified the enforcement of traffic regulations and public safety measures, impounding no fewer than 21 vehicles during an intelligence-led operation in Abraka and Ozoro communities.

The operation forms part of the command’s ongoing efforts to strengthen security and prevent the use of unregistered or improperly documented vehicles for criminal activities.

Conducted on July 21, 2026, the exercise was led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Department of Operations and targeted motorists violating traffic and vehicle registration laws.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the enforcement patrol commenced at about 3:00 p.m. and resulted in the seizure of 21 vehicles found to be in violation of various traffic regulations.

The offences included failure to display vehicle registration number plates, the use of covered number plates, and possession of expired vehicle documents.

The command said all impounded vehicles would undergo the necessary legal and administrative procedures in accordance with existing laws.

Reacting to the operation, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, said vehicles operating without proper identification or valid documentation pose significant security risks, as they can easily be exploited by criminal elements.

He warned that the command would not relent in its efforts to rid the state of practices that undermine public safety and security.

Oyeniyi urged motorists to comply fully with traffic regulations, vehicle registration requirements and documentation procedures.

He added that intelligence-driven enforcement operations would continue across Delta State as part of the command’s broader strategy to strengthen security, improve public safety and ensure compliance with extant laws.
