A police officer attached to MOPOL 20 Division tragically lost his life in a multi-vehicle accident yesterday on Kara Bridge, outbound Berger along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The incident, which occurred around 6:44 a.m., involved a Volvo truck (registration FKJ 484 YA), loaded with goods and heading towards Arepo, a Toyota Hiace bus (registration BWR 371 XC), and a Mercedes bus with an unidentified registration number.

According to preliminary reports from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the accident unfolded after the Volvo truck collided with the Mercedes bus, veered off the road, and overturned onto the Toyota Hiace bus.

The unnamed police officer was reportedly on his motorcycle, returning to his office, when he became caught in the collision and died instantly.
LASEMA noted that its Response Team from the Command Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, was dispatched after receiving a distress call at 6:44 a.m.

Using its specialised heavy-duty equipment, ‘Super Metro,’ the agency successfully removed the truck and cleared the scene to prevent traffic build-up. The Toyota Hiace bus was also towed to the Ojodu Police Station for further investigation.

The Director General of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, commended the swift intervention of LASEMA’s Response Team, alongside officers from the Nigeria Police Force and Ogun State traffic officials, in managing the aftermath and restoring order.
