Delta State Police Command on Thursday paraded 16 suspected kidnappers, armed robbers, cultists, and others arrested for various crimes at different locations across the State.

The Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, who paraded the Suspects at the command headquarters in Asaba, said four AK-47 rifles, 138 ammunition/cartridges, eight Pump Action guns, 15 cut-to-size guns, and five Baretta Pistols were recovered from them.

Abaniwonda hinted that the Police also recovered N2.344m from six tricycle passengers intercepted by operatives of the Ebrumede division who were on patrol duty.

According to him, Some of the stolen phones belonged to their kidnapped victims while the money was part of the ransom the victims paid for their freedom.

The suspects attempted to escape upon sighting the Police but the operatives chased and arrested them in the process with the recovered items, he added.

The Police boss further disclosed at the parade that on July 25, 2024, at about 2000 hours, operatives of the command Dragon Patrol while on stop and search duty along the Asaba-Agbor expressway intercepted one Jammed Abdulahi Shola.

He explained that the 39-year-old suspect was driving a green Toyota vehicle and when the Police searched the vehicle, 320 packs of codeine, 125 sachets of tramadol, and other hard drugs in large quantities were recovered from him.

The CP assured of the protection and safety of all persons residing in the State following the deployment made in the metropolis to checkmate the activities of kidnappers and other hoodlums

This development, he said, has yielded the expected results as the activities of kidnappers and armed robbers have dropped astronomically in the State.

“As you are aware, we are now in the ember months and the command is aware of the likely upsurge in crime within these periods, hence an Operations order has been issued to all Area commanders, DPOS, and Tactical commanders,” he said.

“There will be increased visibility policing, raiding of black spots and criminal hideout across the 25 local government areas of the State.”
