The Kwara State government has reaffirmed its commitment to the Federal Government’s directive to reclaim setbacks around offices and public spaces.

The state government said the move is aimed at curbing insecurity in the state and, by extension, the country.

This was disclosed by the Executive Chairman of the State Geographic Information Service (KWGIS), Abdulkareem Sulyman, on Monday at an inter-ministerial press briefing at the Conference Hall, Ministry of Finance in Ilorin.

Sulyman lauded Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for supporting his agency to make significant improvements in land administration and urban renewal plans.

“KWGIS has processed 156 in the second quarter, and 178 in the last quarter of 2024, making 334 certificates of occupancy duly processed to the final stage and ready for collection,” he disclosed.

He added that the agency was able to achieve this feat because of its new automation system, encouraged by Governor AbdulRazaq, for proper administration and management of land and building matters in the state.

“The success of this agency is tied to the visionary leadership of Governor AbdulRazaq in making sure that developmental activities in the state are in line with the State Master Plan in order to promote growth and rapid development.

“The ongoing reclamation exercise of government setbacks around public offices and institutions in the state is purely a Federal Government directive to curb insecurity in the country, while the reclamation of setbacks along major roads is done by the state government. The exercise will cut across all the sixteen Local Government Areas of the state,” he explained.

According to him, in the last three months, Governor AbdulRazaq has acquired 3,000 hectares of land at Malete, in Moro Local Government for livestock production, while the payment of compensation has reached 70 per cent completion.

Similarly, he said another 2,000 hectares were acquired for the industrial park along Ogbomosho Road, with compensation to be paid in due course, adding that preliminary activities had been concluded on the 19,000 hectares earmarked for the Ilorin Smart City project.
