Oramalugo’s visits, which underline the command’s commitment to fostering robust relationships with stakeholders, focused on reinforcing security measures and promoting seamless trade facilitation in the region.
The Customs boss paid homage to the Oba Akran of Badagry and the Oba of Iberoko, acknowledging the pivotal role of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and stability. He emphasised the need for synergy between the Nigeria Customs Service and local authorities to ensure a secure environment for legitimate trade.
Oramalugo also visited key security formations, including the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base, the Nigerian Army’s 243 RECCE Battalion Regiment, the Nigerian Police Division in Badagry, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
Discussions during the visits centred on intelligence-sharing, improving border security, and adopting a coordinated approach to combating smuggling and other transborder crimes.
Speaking on the importance of collaboration, Oramalugo stated: “Our mission at Seme Area Command goes beyond revenue collection; it extends to ensuring national security and fostering economic growth. Strong partnerships with traditional institutions and security agencies are vital in achieving these objectives.”
He further highlighted the directive from the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) upon his posting to Seme Area Command, which prioritised building synergy with sister agencies to combat smuggling.
“I need your collaboration here in the Seme Command to succeed. When we are overwhelmed with smugglers, I want your assurance that you will assist us in combating them,” he said.
