Sokoto governor sets up committee to probe market fire incident

Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto has set up a seven-member committee to investigate the cause of the fire outbreak at the Kara Market in Sokoto State on Wednesday.

Sokoto announced the set up of the committee in a post shared on his personal X account on Saturday morning after visiting the Kara Market timber shade to express his sympathy to the victims of the fire outbreak that destroyed property worth millions of naira.

“The scale of the damage is truly heartbreaking. I pray that Almighty Allah replenishes what has been lost and protects us from such tragedies in the future,” the governor said.

“To address this unfortunate incident, I have established a seven-member committee, led by Hon. Dalhatu Sidi Mamman Asarakkawa.

“This committee will investigate the cause of the fire, assess the extent of the damage, and recommend appropriate support for the affected traders.”

The Sokoto governor urged everyone to exercise caution, especially with flammable materials.

He also commended the Sokoto State Fire Service and the brave good Samaritans whose swift actions prevented further losses, saying: “Together, we will rebuild and emerge stronger.

“We will work tirelessly to ensure that the affected traders are supported, and the market is restored to full functionality as quickly as possible.”

The governor said his administration remains committed to the safety, security, and prosperity of all residents of Sokoto State.

He added that the Sokoto State Government will continue to prioritize preventive measures and infrastructure development to safeguard its markets and communities.
