The men of the 23 Brigade, of the Nigerian Army, in Yola, the capital of Adamawa state have debunked the allegations that its troops were involved in the fatal shooting of a resident in Mubi South Local government council.l of the state.

The Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations of the brigade, Lt. Adebayo S. Adewumi, in a statement said the brigade described the reports as a “gross misrepresentation of the facts surrounding the incident.”

Stating how the troops acted professionally during the encounter, the Brigade detailed that the incident occurred on August 31, 2024, when Hamidu fled upon sighting the troops, causing his motorcycle to veer into a ditch.

Announcing the several efforts put in place to rescue the late Hamidu from death by rushing him to Mubi General Hospital and informing local police, despite such move, they lamented that “Hamidu succumbed to his injuries.”

“According to the statement, contrary to claims that the troops shot a motorcyclist, Samaila Hamidu, the troops were conducting a routine patrol aimed at deterring criminal activities in the area.”

The Brigade also emphasized that eyewitnesses at the scene commended the soldiers for their swift response and professionalism in handling the situation.

While expressing disappointment at the misleading reports circulating in the media, particularly allegations made by a member of the State House of Assembly, which accused the troops of fatally shooting Hamidu while he was transporting fuel, the need for the public to disregard the “false allegations” he believed has become necessary.

Reaffirming the army’s commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region, the brigade also emphasized the dedication of the troops to ensuring the safety and well-being of residents of Adamawa.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to protecting the lives and livelihoods of all Adamawa State residents.”
