Soldiers reject N13m bribe from terrorists in Plateau

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed how troops of Operation Safe Haven (OPSH) rejected N13 million from terrorists during an operation in Plateau State.

The Director of Defence Media Operations (DDMO), Maj-Gen Markus Kangye, disclosed this during a bi-weekly briefing on military operations across the country yesterday.

He explained that the troops were responding to a distress call about terrorist activities when they encountered two terrorists who offered them the bribe.

Kangye stated: “Between July 9 to 16, 2025, troops of Operation Safe Haven conducted offensive operations and responded to distress calls regarding terrorist activities in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, South Wase, Riyom and Jos East local councils of Plateau. as well as Kaura and Sanga local councils of Kaduna State.

“During these operations, they engaged with extremists, resulting in the death of some, arrest of 12, and the rescue of three kidnap victims. Additionally, weapons and vehicles were recovered from the terrorists.”

Also, troops of OPSH, while on routine patrol, reportedlu arrested seven militias/criminals in Barkin Ladi and Jos South local councils of Plateau, as well as Wamba and Sanga local councils of Nasarawa and Kaduna states.

“On July 9, 2025, our brave troops intercepted a vehicle with bullet holes along Jos, Sanga Road. Suspects attempted to bribe the troops with money, but they declined.

“Two suspects were arrested, and weapons, a vehicle and N13,742,000 were recovered from them. The investigation is ongoing with the recovered items in the custody of the troops.”
