
A suspected Tiv Militia kingpin suspected to have killed the Chief of Chanchangi in Takum local government council of Taraba State has been arrested.

Acting Assistant Director 6 Brigade Army Public Relations, Captain Oni Olubodunde, in a statement, said the suspects are currently undergoing interrogation while efforts are in progress to arrest other members of the militia group.
Identifying the suspect as Male Selim, his arrest, was said to have been effected in the council on the 21 August 2024.
“Troops trailed and arrested one Mela Selim who was believed to be a Tiv Militia kingpin that masterminded the killing of the Chief of Chanchangi at Jankindo Village in Takum LGA on 19 July 2024,” Olubodunde said.

The monarch was brutally murdered in an ambush along side his son in July.
The troops who also confirmed the arrest of several suspected criminals, kidnappers, and bandits from local government Wukari, Takum, and Ussa local government councils, said the feat was achieved in collaboration with other security agencies.
“Troops also arrested suspected gunrunners identified as James Nuhu and Dan-Asabe Ango in Wukari Local Government Area of Taraba State. During interrogation, both suspects confessed to be involved in a series of crimes within Wukari and its environs,” Olubodunde said.

“The suspects were confirmed to have mentioned one Ibrahim Philemon as the armourer who keeps the weapons and proceeds of the criminal syndicate.
“In a follow-up operation, troops swiftly mobilized to the residence of Mr Philemon and recovered a safe cabinet containing large quantity of 7.62 millimeters ammunition and assorted weapons.”
