Troops of the 6 Brigade, Nigerian Army, under Sector 3 of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS), have neutralized a suspected bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a clearance operation in Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
The operation, according to a statement released on Thursday by the Acting Brigade Spokesperson, Captain Oni Olubodunde, followed a recent strategic visit by the Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, to Bandawa community.
During his visit, the Commander stressed the importance of increasing military presence and adopting proactive security strategies in the area. In response, troops conducted a fighting patrol along the Bandawa–Karim Lamido road, where they encountered armed bandits.
“In a swift and decisive exchange of fire, the soldiers neutralized one bandit and recovered an AK-47 rifle along with 39 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition,” the statement read.
Captain Olubodunde highlighted that the success of the operation underscores the Brigade’s commitment to eliminating criminal threats and restoring peace in Taraba State.
He also noted that troops have intensified patrols in the area to maintain stability and reassure residents of their safety.
In a related development, a peace meeting was held on May 12, 2025, to address rising tensions between communities in Kashimbila, Takum LGA of Taraba State, and Jato Aka in Kwande LGA of Benue State. The clashes had previously led to attacks on motorists traveling along the Kashimbila–Jato Aka road.
The meeting, aimed at promoting dialogue and peaceful coexistence, brought together security officials, local leaders, and community representatives. Both sides agreed to work together to end hostilities and ensure the safety of commuters and residents.
The 6 Brigade called on members of the public to continue supporting security agencies with credible and timely information to aid ongoing operations and peace efforts across the state.
