Two policemen killed, over 50 bandits neutralised in Zamfara fresh attack, says Commissioner

The Zamfara State Commissioner of Police,Ahmed Mohammed Bello has disclosed that over 50 bandits were neutralised by the police in collaboration with sister security agencies along Gusau – Funtua highway on Friday.

 

According to him, two police officers paid the supreme price after sustaining gunshots injuries.

 

The State Police boss further stated that the Command has designed formidable strategies against the bandits, one of which he said is closing the road between 6 pm to 6am on daily basis to prevent bandits’ attacks on innocent persons.

 

“Yet, some motorists always move through the bush paths to beat the security operatives. But in the cause of that, they fall into the traps of the same bandits they are running away from. Still the people continue to blame security agencies for lapses”, he lamented.

 

He further disclosed that the Police authority has been taking care of family of the police operative who was injured by the armed bandits and hospitalized, and paying his hospital bills, noting that Life Insurance and hazard allowances cannot be compromised.

 

The Commissioner disclosed this while fielding questions from journalists during a courtesy visit to the Zamfara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ.

 

Continuing, he said that his Command in partnership with other sister security agencies to have designed formidable strategies to protect farmers from constant bandits’ attacks and kidnappings during the 2026 raining season farming period.

 

“We cannot treat the issue of security of farmers in the State with a mere wave of hand, otherwise there will be hunger and starvation in the State”

 

“We have formed units to that effect to effectively monitor the bandits and kidnappers. The issue of paying levies and taxes to bandits by farmers to enable them access their farmlands will soon end”

 

He appealed to journalists to always collaborate with security agencies to disseminate their activities so that the public so that the general public can know that the security agencies are working for their interest.
