Two male suspects, Ezema Onyedikachi (27) and Ugwu Chigozie Anthony (21), have been remanded in prison for allegedly stabbing and killing Nweze Chiebonam, popularly known as “Power Autos,” during a bonfire night at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).
The Enugu State Police Command, in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, said the suspects were arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder and have been placed in correctional custody.
Police investigations revealed that the suspects initially left the event after a dispute over a scratched car, but later returned with a dagger and attacked Chiebonam.
“In the course of the assault, Ezema Onyedikachi collected the dagger from Ugwu Anthony and fatally stabbed the victim in the chest. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead. The dagger was recovered,” Ndukwe said.
Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, described the incident as “unfortunate and avoidable,” urging youths to embrace non-violent ways of resolving disputes.
