Former Governor of Sokoto State and Senator representing Sokoto North Senatorial District, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has extended his empowerment programme to thousands of residents in Sokoto South Senatorial District.
The district is currently represented by the immediate past governor of the state, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
Items distributed during the exercise included 200 motorcycles, 210 grinding machines, 210 water-pumping machines, and 2,000 bags of assorted grains.
Speaking at the distribution ceremony, Wamakko, represented by the APC State Youth Leader, Alhaji Nasiru Itali, said the gesture was aimed at supporting the people of Sokoto State irrespective of political or regional affiliations.
He explained that expanding the empowerment initiative to other senatorial zones aligns with Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s Nine-Point Smart Agenda, which prioritizes citizens’ welfare and grassroots development.
“We are here in the Southern Zone, covering Tambuwal, Bodinga, Yabo, Shagari, Tureta, Dange/Shuni, and Kebbe LGAs, not only to empower our people but also to strengthen our existing relationships,” Wamakko stated.
He assured that the initiative would be sustained as part of efforts to cushion the economic hardship facing citizens and complement the state government’s development drive.
In his remarks, Speaker of the Sokoto State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Tukur Bala, described Wamakko as “a father, leader, and mentor to all political stakeholders in the state.”
Similarly, APC Deputy National Youth Leader, Hon. Jamaluddeen Kabir, commended Wamakko for his consistency in promoting grassroots empowerment and political inclusion, while the State Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Alhaji Abba Tambuwal, praised his commitment to initiatives that directly impact the lives of ordinary citizens.
The items were distributed to APC leaders and beneficiaries at the grassroots level.
Several beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the gesture, describing it as timely amid the prevailing economic hardship.
One of them, Larai Umar, a widow from Bodinga Local Government, said the grinding machine she received would enable her to start a small business to support her children’s education.
