The League of Anambra Professionals (LAP) has appealed to indigenes and corporate bodies to support Anambra State government’s fund raising effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The League of Anambra Professionals (LAP) has appealed to indigenes and corporate bodies to support Anambra State government’s fund raising effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement, its President, Chijioke Okoli, said LAP planned to contribute to the state COVID-19 fund by mobilising its members, friends and well-wishers to support.

“While commending the Federal Government (FG) for the N10b grant to Lagos State–being the epicentre of the pandemic–as well as the exemplary leadership shown by the Lagos team in leading the charge against the scourge, we vigorously support the Anambra State government’s request for special funding from the FG to contain the pandemic, just as the state government should strive harder to rise to the challenge occasioned by the pandemic. This also raises the urgent need to establish Coronavirus laboratory and test centres in the state,” he said.

Okoli said LAP was committed to promoting awareness towards eradicating the ignorance and cynicism that still pervade the COVID-19 sphere and create huge stumbling blocks to government’s efforts against the pandemic.

He, however, enjoined federal and state governments to show transparency and fairness in the distribution of COVID-19 palliatives, to encourage more donors to complement government’s efforts.
