Government may halt relief materials to 2.4m IDPs in 2020
The Federal Government might from the first quarter of next year discontinue distribution of relief materials to an estimated 2.4 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) across the federation.
The Guardian learnt that the move is to enable the affected state governments working with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development reintegrate and resettle the inmates.
The Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Senator Basheer Mohammed, gave the indication yesterday after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House, Abuja.
He explained that the strategy for the reintegration of the IDPs was to provide care, maintenance and durable solutions to their needs.
