Oji River youths in Enugu State have expressed displeasure over state of public infrastructure in the local government.

They challenged the council chairman, Mr. Harrison Okeke to step up actions towards tackling infrastructure decay in the area, stressing that health, social and educational facilities in the area are in dire need of attention.

The youths who addressed a press conference in Enugu under the aegis of Save Oji River Now Initiative (SORNI), blamed the challenges on lack of accountability, transparency and open governance by their leaders.

Convener of the group, Mr. Kingsley Okah condemned activities of political stakeholders in the area, whom he alleged were more interested in political horse-trading that would earn them appointments, while overlooking the state of the council.

Flanked by Alvan Chinagorom, head of strategy and Eze Emmanuel, Legal Adviser, Okah said: “The Council should make primary healthcare centres functional in Oji River, as their abandonment will amount to monumental waste of public funds, while the people are exposed to avoidable deaths.”
