A female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Chinenye Nwokocha, has been reportedly killed by a stray bullet during Thursday’s night gun duel between the joint security operatives and the gunmen, who attempted to attack the Police Area Command, Orlu, Imo State.

Consequently, family members, relatives and NSCDC’s Command in the state have been thrown into mourning, as a result of the tragedy.

The late Nwokocha, a married woman, was said to have returned to her home in Orlu, after the day’s work and was relaxing, when the stray bullet hit her, leading to her death.

A gun battle had ensued between the joint operatives of soldiers, Police and Air force and the attempted attackers of the Orlu Area Police Command, which left about nine persons dead. Though the military command in Abuja said 11 hoodlums were killed, Imo State Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, claimed nine were killed in the incident.
