Tinubu Lauded as DSS, NASENI Partner to Build Locally-Made Security Equipment

President Bola Tinubu was on Thursday commended for his support of a new collaboration between the Department of State Services (DSS) and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) that has resulted in the local production of modern security equipment.

The initiative marks a significant step towards Nigeria’s technological self-reliance in national security operations.

Speaking in Abuja, NASENI’s Chief Executive Officer, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the agency, in partnership with the DSS and with the full backing of the President, had developed advanced security systems designed to strengthen intelligence gathering and operational efficiency.

Halilu disclosed that a new manufacturing facility jointly established with the DSS in Abuja is now fully equipped to produce high-grade security technology.

“A state-of-the-art manufacturing facility jointly constructed with the DSS in Abuja is fully equipped with the latest security systems and technology that will transform the conduct of security operations nationwide,” he said.

He explained that the DSS Director-General, Mr. Oluwatosin Ajayi, had consistently aligned with the President’s vision of promoting self-reliance within Nigeria’s security architecture and reducing dependence on imported equipment.

“The President firmly believes that Nigeria has the capacity to manufacture its own security equipment and should minimise reliance on foreign imports. This strategic partnership leverages NASENI’s scientific and engineering expertise to enhance research and innovation tailored specifically to the needs of the security sector,” Halilu stated.

He added that both agencies had invested in training and developing technical expertise to support the new production line, although details of the equipment remain classified for operational reasons.

Halilu noted that the success of this collaboration could position Nigeria as a regional leader in security technology manufacturing, strengthening both national stability and the broader West African security landscape.

“The initiative reflects the President’s broader priorities to promote self-reliance and technological advancement in security systems, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s pursuit of sustainable security solutions,” he said.

The development represents a practical shift toward homegrown innovation in addressing Nigeria’s complex security challenges, with expectations that the new equipment will enhance efficiency and coordination among security agencies across the country.
