No public school enrolment for WASSCE in Sokoto, Zamfara, WAEC verifies

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has confirmed that no public school student from Sokoto and Zamfara states would sit for the West African Senior School Examination (WASSCE) holding between May 16 and June 23, 2022.

Head of Nigeria’s National office (HNO), WAEC, Patrick Areghan, who made the disclosure yesterday in Lagos, declined advancing reasons for the development.

He, however, stated that private schools in the two enrolled for the test, but deplored the late registration of candidates, stating that the act was “totally unacceptable, as it delays preparations for the examinations.”

Areghan said over 1.6 million candidates from 20,221 schools have registered for the test, out of which 800,055, representing 49.76 per cent are males, while 800,724, accounting for 50.24 per cent, are females.

The HNO said: “The candidates would be examined in 76 subjects, made up of 197 papers, while about 30,000 teachers would be participating in the examinations as supervisors.”

The organisation frowned on malpractices, threatening penalties for perpetrators.
