Northern Senators Forum Mourns Emirs of Gumel, Zurmi

The Northern Senators Forum has expressed grief over the deaths of the Emir of Gumel, Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani, CON, and the Emir of Zurmi, Alhaji Bello Sulaiman.

munities.

Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Sani, who died on September 3, 2026, was remembered for his role in promoting education, peace, and unity in the Gumel Emirate.

The Forum said the late emir supported modern education and girl-child schooling while providing calm leadership during periods of tension.
It also described him as a bridge-builder whose advice influenced leaders and whose palace remained accessible to people seeking help.

The Forum also paid tribute to Alhaji Bello Sulaiman, the Emir of Zurmi, who died on Monday after about five years on the throne.
According to the senators, the late emir provided steady leadership during a difficult period of security challenges in Zamfara State.
The Forum said his efforts toward peace and unity earned him respect within the traditional institution and contributed to wider efforts to promote stability in the North-West.

The Northern Senators Forum extended its condolences to the Gumel and Zurmi Emirate Councils, the families of the deceased monarchs, and the governments and people of Jigawa and Zamfara states.
It also commended the two monarchs for their contributions to community development, peaceful coexistence, and national stability.
