NSCDC parades four over crimes, warns Lagosians of scammers

The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested and paraded four suspects for various offences that adversely impacted their victims.

Speaking at the NSCDC Lagos Command headquarters in Ikeja, the State Commandant, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, disclosed that the suspects were apprehended at different locations within the state.

Among the suspects is 29-year-old Olamilekan Olowookere from Osun State, who was arrested for allegedly vandalising a DAF truck he was employed to drive. According to Keshinro, Olowookere, alongside two others – Abba Idris, a 28-year-old scrap dealer from Kano State, and Ejitunde Wasiu, a 48-year-old vulcaniser from Osun State – were apprehended by the NSCDC patrol team on Monday, January 27, 2025, around the Guinness axis of Ikeja. The trio was reportedly caught dismembering the truck and selling its parts as scrap.

In another development, the command paraded 28-year-old Ahmed Hamisu from Adamawa State, who was arrested for operating fake payment receipts for online purchases. Hamisu’s activities were said to have defrauded unsuspecting victims, causing significant financial loss.

Acting on complaints from two victims, NSCDC operatives apprehended Hamisu on Sunday, January 24, 2025, at Orege Road, Ajegunle, in the Ajeromi-Ifelodun area of the state.

Keshinro revealed that some of Hamisu’s accomplices, including Yinusa Mohammed, remain at large but are being pursued by the command. He added that investigations showed the group used fake alerts, military camouflage uniforms, and multiple phone numbers to defraud business owners.

The commandant warned the public against transacting with unknown individuals to avoid falling victim to scammers. He also cautioned vandals and fraudsters to desist from their activities or face the full wrath of the law, stressing the NSCDC’s commitment to prosecuting offenders in line with legal provisions.
