Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State council, has given its nod to the state’s police command to arrest one Igwe Wofuru, who had been parading himself as a journalist in the state.

The police arrested the suspect in Port Harcourt on Friday for peddling fake news and false security reports, which caused panic in the state. In a statement signed by its secretary, Ike Wigodo, yesterday, the union said it had gone through the list of its registered members and could not find any Igwe Wofuru, aged 38, from Egbeda in Emohua Council of Rivers.

The union, therefore, urged the police to prosecute the impersonator, as the it was ready to bear witness against the fake journalist.“The NUJ frowns at quackery in the journalism profession and would need the assistance of security agencies to flush out impersonators among journalists in the state,” the union stated.
