
The Police in Edo State have arrested 34-year-old Iyayi Omokaro, for allegedly killing his elder brother after a heated argument at Uzalla community in Edo State.
According to the Edo State police command, the victim, identified as 38-year-old Friday Omokaro, sustained fatal injuries during the altercation, which escalated into violence.
Spokesperson for the command, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, who disclosed details of the incident in a statement, said that at about 3:30 p.m., officers and local vigilantes responded to reports of the murder. He said: “Upon arrival, authorities discovered Omokaro’s body and promptly transported him to a nearby medical facility, where he was pronounced dead.
“The police have also recovered the weapon (a cutlass) believed to have been used in the attack.
“Initial investigations indicated that a misunderstanding between the two brothers prompted the confrontation that ended tragically.
“Iyayi, the younger brother, has since been taken into custody and is undergoing further investigation. He has reportedly confessed to the crime and is expected to face formal charges in court soon,” he said.
The police authority urged residents to seek peaceful resolutions to conflicts to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
