Delta State Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, has ordered the immediate deployment of combat operatives to Ogwashi Uku and surrounding areas to address the growing concerns over kidnapping and armed robbery.
Over the past four months, unidentified gunmen have reportedly abducted several victims, causing fear among residents. The most recent victim was Pastor Divine Omodia of Elyon Paradise Ministry Church, Asagba Ogwashi, near Ogwashi Uku Polytechnic. The cleric was shot, and the attackers severed his two fingers.
In response to the incident, the police swiftly dispatched tactical teams to the area. Police spokesperson, Bright Edafe, confirmed in a statement yesterday that the command was aware of the escalating complaints about kidnappings and armed robberies in the region.
Operatives from the Dragon Patrol, Eagle-Net, and Rapid Response Squad have been deployed to key points in Ogwashi Uku. Also, the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad has been instructed to focus on intelligence-driven policing to apprehend the criminals.
The State Intelligence Department has also been tasked with undercover operations and intelligence gathering in the area. Abaniwonda assured residents of the state’s commitment to ensuring their safety and reiterated that the entire state remains secure.
