The 2025 edition of Rotary International’s World Peace and Understanding Day will be held on Wednesday, February 26, in Lagos. According to the Rotary Club of Lagos, the event will be commemorated with a symposium focusing on the critical need to end hunger, under the theme: “Peace Through Partnerships: Ending Hunger Together.”
The symposium, starting at 10:00 a.m. at the Henry Fajemirokun Hall of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Lagos, will feature Mrs Edobong Akpabio, Executive Director, Greenport Impact Cluster Nigeria Limited, as the keynote speaker.
Samson Ogbole, Founder of Soiless Farm Lab (SFarmlab) in Ogun State, and Dr Olanrewaju Lateef Yusuf, Lecturer in the Department of Religion and Peace at Lagos State University, will also participate as panellists.
Ogbole is a pioneer in agriculture, a visionary leader using technology to revolutionise food production. Reiterating the importance of the event, the President of the Rotary Club of Lagos, Rotarian Adetunji Lamidi, stated: “February is Rotary International’s Peace Building and Conflict Prevention month.
The month, and the symposium on February 26 in Lagos, remind us of the critical role we play in promoting peace and understanding, and conflict resolution in our communities and around the world.”
Emphasising the symposium’s significance, the Chairperson of the Rotary Club’s World Peace and Understanding Day, Rotarian Toki Mabogunje, said the event underscores the urgent need for collaboration in combating hunger as humanity’s most pressing challenge.
She added that Rotary International remains committed to making a difference in world peace and understanding, and that the global organisation is also resolute about ending hunger to promote inclusion for all in the quest for global peace.
Canvassing support for these laudable ideals, Mabogunje, former President of the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also said: “Every step we take together brings us closer to a greater future. Let’s all share the goal of ending hunger and promoting peace for a better tomorrow. Let’s take a stand for peace together. Let’s take a stand against hunger.”
The event will be attended by thought leaders, change-makers, and passionate advocates of peace, conflict resolution, and food security from within Rotary, the business community, and beyond.
