South-South PDP lifts George Turnah’s suspension

The leadership of the South-South Zonal Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lifted the suspension earlier imposed on the South-South Zonal Acting Secretary of the party, Barr. George Turnah, by the Bayelsa State Working Committee of the PDP on grounds of alleged misconduct.

It could be recalled that the Bayelsa State Working Committee of the PDP, led by the State Chairman, Mr. Solomon Aguana, and other executive members, announced the suspension of George Turnah over the weekend.

Not satisfied with Turnah’s suspension, the PDP Ward executive members of Ogbia Ward-9 in Ogbia Local Government Area, where George Turnah hails from, held a press conference on Monday condemning the suspension as illegal.

They also threatened to leave the PDP in droves if the suspension was not reversed.

However, on Tuesday, the South-South Zonal Working Committee of the PDP announced the setting aside of George
Turnah’s suspension and reinstated him.

The lifting of the suspension was contained in a public notice signed by the Organizing Secretary of the South-South Zonal Working Committee, Arch. Ekom Akonjom.

The public notice read: “The Nigerian public is hereby notified that the Zonal Working Committee, South-South Zone of the Peoples Democratic Party, met today (Tuesday) at 8:00 AM, 18th February 2025, and considered an appeal brought by its Acting Secretary, George Turnah (MON), on his suspension by the Bayelsa State Working Committee of the PDP.

“After careful consideration of the appeal and taking into account the relevant provisions of the party’s constitution, the committee found that the appeal has merit and accordingly granted the reliefs sought therein.

“Consequently, the suspension of George Turnah is hereby set aside and lifted by the powers conferred on the Zonal Working Committee of the party, South-South Zone.

“The public is hereby advised to note the setting aside and lifting of the suspension.”

Turnah, who until Saturday, February 15, was the Zonal Legal Adviser, was appointed to replace Chief Felix Omemu as the Zonal Secretary following the latter’s suspension by the Zonal Executive Council for gross misconduct.

Turnah’s emergence as the Acting Zonal Secretary, replacing Omemu—who is also from Bayelsa State—may have unsettled some leaders in the state, leading to his suspension.
