A platform, Drop That Gun (DTG), has called for cooperation between the Federal Government and the private sector to chart a path for Nigerians that will ensure unity and peace in the country.
The Drop That Gun project, a social enterprise, also seeks to create employment opportunities for millions of youths across the country.
To achieve their objectives, organisers of the project also launched the DTG Fashion Challenge, a movement that combines fashion, entertainment, and media to make unity the pillar of Nigeria’s future.
The Chief Strategist, Drop That Gun Project, Mr. Modestus Bernard, stated this at a media briefing held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in Lagos.
Bernard, in an open letter to President Bola Tinubu dated September 26, 2025, to mark Nigeria’s 65 Independent Day celebration, said there was an urgent need for national rebirth, adding that the goal of the project is to ensure Nigerians not only embrace unity in spirit, but also wear it on their bodies and in their hearts.
Bernard, who noted that 65 years after independence, Nigeria remains divided along ethnic, religious and political lines, said the disunity led to a civil war, and decades later is still crippling the nation’s progress.
“Disunity is not just one of Nigeria’s problems, it is the basket holding all our problems. Unity is the basket holding all the solutions,” he said.
According to him, Drop That Gun Project will promote unity among Nigerians, engage and empower youth with jobs and render crime unattractive by channelling talent into creativity.
Bernard urged President Tinubu to centre the independent celebration on unity and unveil new policies to promote unity and discourage those who will work against it.
Speaking on the DTG Fashion Challenge, he said the group has designed unity-inspired fashion for Nigerians to wear, creating awareness and consciousness of unity.
According to him, in 12 months, one million Nigerians and global supporters wearing DTG will generate N30 billion and 10 million wearing it in 24 months will produce N450 billion turnover.
He said in one year alone, DTG will create 5, 000 jobs across fashion production, digital marketing, logistics, content creation, media and distribution.
To kick-off the project, Bernard proposed a N2 billion interest-bearing loan, disbursed under the supervision of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with full transparency and a 24-month repayment plan.
At the event, Coordinator, DTG Women of Peace, Mrs Omolara Faboyede, said Nigeria was at a crossroads where hunger, unemployment and crime threaten the very soul of the people.
She, however, expressed the belief that in this challenge lies the nation’s greatest opportunity, the chance to unite, to empower and to rebuild.
