Newly constituted Nigerian-Hungarian Chamber of Commerce (NHCC) has stated the need for both countries to advance business relationships by tapping into the vast trade opportunities available to both, thereby building their trade volumes.

President of the Chamber, Spencer Onosode, said this via a communiqué from the event held in Lagos that constituted the chamber’s existence. He said the event also served as an induction ceremony for 30 corporate establishments and individuals into the chamber.

Commending the entrepreneurial spirit of the members for making the move to join the Chamber, Onosode noted that Hungary; a traditional country that had survived some conflicts, was also a global phenomenon with many firsts in science and technology.

He charged the newly inducted members to tap into the country’s many essences in education, tourism, arts and architecture. He added that Nigeria, as the giant of the African continent, is a land flowing with vast mineral resources, a thriving entrepreneurial population and a business environment constantly being improved upon.

Former Nigerian Ambassador to Hungary and the Balkan Region (Bosnia, Serbia, Herzegovina), Modupe Irele, stressed the many benefits of Hungary doing business with a ‘virgin’ territory like Nigeria. She noted that the sphere of business between both countries is currently untapped, particularly as Hungary is just slowly getting to know the opportunities of doing business with Nigeria. “Members need to look critically at sustainable businesses from Hungary, especially in areas like medicine, pharmacy, agriculture and technology that can enhance the economic output of enterprise in Nigeria”, she said.

Business Development Director, lzabella Abia-Okon, a Hungarian, gave a presentation titled ‘Glimpses of Hungary’ which further extolled Hungarian innovations and business opportunities.

Current businessman and former student in Hungary, Banji Akinsola, who was also inducted, painted a vivid picture of the benefits of both countries doing business together.
