The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Tuesday advised its zones to adhere to the deadline for the submission of lists toward the Police Games.

The Games is billed for March 14 to March 27 at the National Stadium, Abuja.

The Force Sports Secretary-General, Anderson Bankole, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the deadline would lapse in the first week of March.

“We gave enough time for all the zones to carry out all modalities for the selection of athletes.

“We want a keenly contested competition and that will feature the very best athletes in the force.

“We are envisaging a competition where a lot of skills will be exhibited,’’ Bankole said.

The secretary-general said that only one zone had concluded its selection process and had sent the list of its players.

”As at the moment only zone nine Enugu has finalised its participation process. We are awaiting others to follow suit,’’ he said.

NAN reports that 28 sports would feature at this year’s edition of the Games.

The sports are Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Chess, Dart, Golf, Squash, Kickboxing, Swimming, Tennis, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Karate, Judo, Wrestling, Weightlifting and Rugby.

Others are Hockey, Football, Polo, Basketball, Volleyball, Handball, Scrabble, Tug of War, Wushu kungfu, Cycling and Shooting.
