Nigerian woman wins Gold at Global awards, Women changing world 2025

Lola Owolabi, founder of Proudtobeme, a nonprofit empowerment organisation, was named the Social Enterprise Award winner at the 2025 Women Changing the World Awards.

The Women Changing the World Awards, presented by Oprah Winfrey’s all-time favourite guest, Dr. Tererai Trent, celebrates and recognizes women achieving outstanding success in sustainability, humanitarian work, leadership, advocacy, tech, product development, education, health, and innovation.

The awards are designed to recognize the growing number of women leading the way in making the world a better place for us all and inspire other women to answer the call to take action.

In her speech, Dr. Trent said, “These exceptional women are here to awaken hearts, give permission to recapture dreams, and inspire the women of the world to come together to forge a brighter path for all. The rising of women is the awakening of everybody.”

While appreciating the organisers of the awards, Lola Owolabi expressed her excitement about winning gold in her category, while noting that winning the award is an honour and a reminder of the work still ahead.

“It reaffirms my commitment to empowering women and marginalized communities, ensuring that every woman recognizes her potential and has the tools to thrive,” she said.

Reflecting on the event, she added that being surrounded by such incredible, purpose-driven women was truly inspiring.

She said, “Each of them is changing the world uniquely, and standing among them was a privilege. This award is a win for me and every woman who has ever doubted her ability to make a difference.”

According to Dr. Trent, a women empowerment advocate, the vision for the awards is to empower women everywhere to reclaim their sacred dreams and call in women across the globe to unite and pave the way towards a better future for all.

She noted, “It can be challenging to create change in the world, and Lola Owolabi offers this advice to others who are considering following their calling to make a difference.

“Start where you are, with what you have. Your impact must not be grand to be meaningful – small, consistent efforts create lasting change.”

Lola Owolabi is proud of her achievements. In the last 12 months, she has expanded Proudtobeme’s impact by empowering more women through mentorship and leadership programs.

She ed global retreats that have helped women reset, refocus, and reclaim their purpose.

Published her book, If She Can, So Can You, inspiring countless women to step into their power.

And attributes this success to her unwavering faith, resilience, and the incredible network of women who have supported her journey.

UK-based Owolabi is committed to making an impact through her work, and her vision for the future is to continue creating spaces where women are empowered, valued, and equipped to lead boldly whether in their careers, communities, or personal lives.
