Nigerians throng new 24-hr Immigration office for passports
Barely two weeks into the opening of Nigeria’s first 24-hour express passport issuing office by the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), seekers of the travel document are already trooping into the facility located in the highbrow Maitama area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The Guardian investigation showed that the crowd, mainly peopled by young people, was willing to pay for the document at the private centre than experiencing the more arduous and tout-riddle process at the service’s headquarters in Sauka or the Gwagwalada passport office.
As this reporter approached the centre – a well guarded high-rise glass building – two applicants, a male and female, were exiting the premises excited.
A brief chat with one of them, Angela (not real name), revealed that they just went through the whole gamut of application and successfully got theirs in less than a day.
