General Overseer, Charismatic Renewal Ministries, Dr. Cosmas Ilechukwu, has urged the electorate to grill contestants for political offices on their ideological foundation and economic blueprint.

General Overseer, Charismatic Renewal Ministries, Dr. Cosmas Ilechukwu, has urged the electorate to grill contestants for political offices on their ideological foundation and economic blueprint.

Speaking at the special Independence service and prayers organised by the church yesterday in Abuja, Ilechukwu argued that “if we want to get the right leadership,” moneybags would be ignored during elections.

He said: “It is not just anybody who has money that should get your votes. Anybody who gets into power by bribing people is going there to steal our money. We must insist that they face us with their ideological underpinnings and economic blueprint.”

He called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to be an unbiased umpire and forthright in the discharge of its duties by conducting a free and fair election where the votes of the citizens count.

Noting that Nigerians need good and patriotic leaders who can manage the economy, not clannish and nepotistic ones, he added: “INEC must make our votes count. It should not be an instrument that will butcher this country. It must be an instrument that will give life to Nigeria by conducting a free and fair election where the votes of the citizens count.

“It must be an unbiased umpire it ought to be. It must be forthright and upright in the discharge of its duties. The officials should know that posterity will judge them; they may get away this time around, but history will live to tell us who did what and who killed Nigeria.”
