The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has released the required documents for Nigerians to modify their National Identity Number (NIN) data.

Nigerians seeking to change their date of birth must provide a digitalized National Population Commission (NPC) attestation certificate for those born before 1992 and a digitalized NPC birth certificate for those born after 1992.

For those changing names, applicants are to provide court affidavits, newspaper extracts, marriage certificates in the case of marital status, and other government identification cards.

Those who want to change their address on their NIN must provide either a utility bill, tenancy agreement, or community leader attestation letter.

NIN holders interested in changing their phone numbers are mandated to only provide a police report.

NIMC in March unveiled a mobile application for Nigerians to modify data on NIN.

Nigerians can make corrections of name, date of birth, phone numbers incorrectly registered with their NIN on the mobile application, NIMC said.

The application and online portal allows visitors to register to use the service. Thereafter, it requests for visitors’ NIN, last name, email address before launching the data modification channel.

In late March, NIMC announced the fees that Nigerians are required to pay to modify the data on NIN.

The commission said, to modify names, applicants are required to N1,552.2, date of birth correction costs N16,340, email and address change costs N1,552.2.

NIMC in early April said that Nigerians, who have registered for the National Identification Number (NIN) will soon be able to request for a National ID card with payment functionality for all types of social and financial services.

The Commission said only registered citizens and legal residents with the NIN will be eligible to request the card.

NIMC added that the card national id card will contain features of debit and prepaid card to cater for both banked and unbanked individuals.
