About nine people have died, while 12 others sustained injuries, yesterday, in a road crash involving four vehicles on the Kaduna-Zaria highway.
Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Kaduna State, Hafiz Mohammed, who confirmed the development, said the accident occurred about 5:00 a.m. on the Rigachikun Bridge, close to the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).
According to him, two DAF trailers, a Toyota bus and a saloon car were involved in the accident, which resulted from speeding, faulty overtaking and loss of control.
“The injuries they sustained include fracture, bruises and head wounds,” he added.
The sector commander explained that the injured victims and lifeless bodies were taken to St. Gerard Hospital and Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital in Kaduna.
Mohammed, who advised motorists to always abide by safety rules to save life and property, stressed that the clearance of the obstructions caused by the accident was ongoing.
He reminded motorists going through the Kaduna-Zaria highway of the ongoing road construction and diversions in Kawo, Ragachickun, Maraban Jos, Birnin Yero and Jaji.
