Gov orders disengagement of workers employed by predecessor
Leadership of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Abia State chapter, has declared support for Governor Alex Otti’s administration over the ongoing workers verification exercise and other ongoing reforms in the state.
In a statement jointly signed by the state NLC Chairman, Nweke Pascal Iheme, and the Secretary, Emma Alozie, in Umuahia, the labour union commended the governor for demonstrating commitment to reposition the civil service.
NLC also applauded the governor’s pledge to clear the backlog of salary and pension arrears before the end of the year.
The statement reads: “Dr. Alex Otti has demonstrated commitment to reposition Abia Civil Service and welfare of workers, as well as pensioners, assuring that this will be achieved before the end of the year.”
ALSO, Otti has, through the Head of Service (HOS), Joy Maduka, directed ministries, parastatals, boards, agencies and arms of government to immediately disengage all workers in their departments who were employed from January 2023 till date.
The HOS made the directive public, at the weekend, in a circular titled, ‘Disengagement of Staff Employed From January, 2023 Till Date,” with reference HSA/S.0006/iv//08, tasking those concerned to immediately comply with the said directive.
