New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has been urged to replace Sen. Suleiman Hunkuyi as Kaduna State governorship candidate, over allegations that he is a stooge of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is among the demands of the Coalition of Kaduna NNPP Youth (COKNY), in a petition signed by Abdullahi Adamu (Chairman) and Muhammad Salisu (Secretary) to the state party chairman, Ben Kure.

The youth group, in its numbers, staged a protest at the state secretariat of NNPP, and carried placards with inscriptions such as ‘We want Hunkuyi replaced’, ‘Hunkuyi is a stooge working for APC’ and ‘NNPP is not for trading.

MEANWHILE, Hunkuyi, in a swift reaction, described the group as faceless and its positions a joke taken too far.

He claimed that they were sponsored to malign his personality with frivolous issues, which could not hold water, adding that their protest might not be unconnected with another petition seeking the replacement of Kaduna Central Senatorial candidate, Ahmed Umar, reportedly with pending corruption charges.

“All the allegations against me cannot be substantiated. They are mere attempts to undermine my candidature, but I can tell you it is a joke taken too far, which will not yield any result,” Hunkuyi said.

The groups, however, prayed: “Since the substitution window is still open, we urge the party leadership to immediately replace Hunkuyi with a better and uncompromising gubernatorial candidate.”

Some of the allegations against Hunkuyi include: “The gubernatorial candidate has the chameleon attitude of romancing with the opposition party in the state, and most party loyalists are not comfortable with this relationship, as it will undermine our collective efforts.

“We are afraid that the candidate of our party has already sold out to the ruling APC since he is known for this deceptive attitude in the history of Kaduna politics.”

According to the group, as the gubernatorial candidate in the state, Hunkuyi is supposed to be the unifier of the remaining candidates. “Unfortunately, he happens to be the destroyer of other candidates, which is a serious anti-party activity.”
