No alternative to restructuring of Nigeria, Afe Babalola insists

Founder of Afe Babalola University (ABUAD), Chief Afe Babalola (SAN), yesterday declared that there is no alternative to country’s restructuring, saying the Nigeria’s constitution constitutes the nation’s greatest setback.

He said the constitution is expensive to operate with its attendant over concentration of power at the centre, thereby rendering states and local governments impotent unlike what the 1960-1963 parliamentary constitution.

Babalola spoke at Okemesi Ekiti, Ekiti West Local Government area during the unveiling of his statue, garden and a road named after him by Afe Babalola beneficiaries worldwide.

His words: “Everybody knows my position about the constitution we operate in the country. But I will like to emphasise that our constitution is the greatest problem of Nigeria as a country of nations.

“I say with emphasis that the only change that can change the country for the better and pave way for the evolution of one nation is the changes that change the structure of Nigeria.

“That change is the restructuring of the country, it is restructuring that will reduce overconcentration of power in the centre and reduce corruption, promote harmony and unity and make the country metamorphose into a nation.”
