The Kaduna State Police Command has dismissed reports of multiple deaths in Monday’s tanker explosion at Dan Magaji, Zaria, saying that several people were injured and are receiving treatment in the hospital.
The incident occurred around 8:30 a.m. near the Rochas Foundation School along the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass between Kwangila and Dan Magaji.
Specifically, the accident involved two fuel-laden tankers and a Volkswagen Golf car.
Meanwhile, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Mansir Hassan, said no lives were lost in the crash.
He said: “As at this moment, no death recorded. All the affected victims are in hospital”.
Another source told journalists that four people sustained injuries and are receiving treatment.
He alleged that the Golf car was parked on the road when a tanker, travelling against traffic, rammed into it.
Earlier, security analyst Zagazola Makama had reported on X (formerly Twitter) that several people died in the crash, claiming the collision triggered at least five explosions, sending flames and thick black smoke into the air.
He also said all occupants of the cars, except one driver, were killed instantly.
Emergency services and security operatives cordoned off the scene, diverting motorists to alternative routes as rescue and recovery operations continued.
