The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has dismissed claims of a faction within its ranks, insisting that the party remains united and cohesive despite recent assertions by a group identifying itself as “PRP-Vanguard Collective.”
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, described the group as fictitious and unknown to the leadership and membership of the party.
“It is important to categorically state that there is no such thing as a faction within the PRP. The claims by some individuals or group claiming to operate under a fictitious ‘PRP-Vanguard Collective’ are baseless and do not represent the reality of our party,” he said.
Ishaq added that the individuals behind the claims are not recognised by the party at any level, stressing that their actions do not reflect the position or structure of the PRP.
He questioned the timing of the development, noting that the claims surfaced at a period when the party is gaining increased political visibility and momentum.
“Why is it that we are just hearing about these claims now, at a time when PRP is attracting wider political attention? It is clear that these distractions are attempts by certain interests to undermine our progress,” he said.
The spokesperson maintained that the party would not be distracted by what he described as attempts to create confusion or mislead the public.
“We cannot and will not be shaken by intimidation, media distortion or propaganda. Our restraint should not be mistaken for weakness. We remain committed to lawful and peaceful engagement while firmly resisting attacks, misinformation and unfair criticism,” he stated.
He urged members and supporters of the party to remain focused and undeterred, assuring them of the leadership’s resolve to sustain the party’s growth and relevance.
The PRP, one of Nigeria’s oldest political parties, said its history of resilience spanning decades remains a testament to its stability and capacity to withstand internal and external pressures.
Ishaq reaffirmed the party’s commitment to its founding ideals and its determination to continue advancing its political agenda, insisting that no group or individual would derail its progress.
